Every year, Elder April Bennett organizes a ceder headband making workshop, inviting staff members and social workers to learn about the art of cedar weaving.
Once dried, the 15 finished headbands that we wove together will be used as part of our annual Honouring the Journey of Our Youth ceremony.
This celebratory event recognizes the resilience and growth of our youth as they transition into community as the next phase of life – with support from their community and VACFSS.

The Western redcedar bark used for this workshop was from the Squamish territory, collected by Musqueam Peoples.
The workshop is taught by Haida cedar bark weaver and storyteller, Todd Devries (Giihlgiigaa). Follow him on his Facebook, where he shares his other works and processes.
