Resources is responsible for the administration and management of foster homes for VACFSS. This responsibility involves recruiting, training, supporting and monitoring Indigenous foster caregivers as well as non-Indigenous caregivers who have a connection to the Indigenous community. The mission of the Resources Program is to provide safe alternative care for Indigenous children in care that promotes and respects their cultural identity. Resources facilitates a Cultural Education Program, Caregiver Education Program, specialized caregiver training, caregiver self-help, and in home support services.
The Resources Social Worker (RSW) reports to a Resources Team Leader and works in partnership with VACFSS’s Child Protection and Guardianship programs. The RSW is responsible for maintaining a caseload of foster homes, recruiting, developing and maintaining a range of resources for when it is necessary that a child lives outside of their home. The goal of this service is to provide the most appropriate placement to meet the needs of the child. This goal is enacted in practice by:

The position monitors services provided, supports the resource providers, and liaises with internal staff for the safety and wellbeing of children. JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Social Work Assistant (SWA) supports Social Workers by assisting with some of the day-to-day casework activities. The Clinical Supervisor is directly accountable for the quality of service to clients through Counsellors, working collaboratively with referring VACFSS Programs, setting and monitoring standards in a manner that is culturally sensitive to Indigenous people, reporting requirements and working within financial policies. JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Collaborative Practice Team Leader, the Collaborative Practice Coordinator works collaboratively in a neutral role with the social worker, immediate and extended family (kinship), community members and other supports identified by family to develop a plan of care to address child safety concerns. The Coordinator, facilitates and helps to implement the co-operative family directed intervention planning process that is available to families whose children are identified by the Director to be in need of safety. It provides a non-adversarial route for developing risk reduction plans but is not intended to replace the court process. The parents will have the option of using this method or choosing alternative methods of dispute resolution including court. The participation of the immediate and extended families is a vital part of this initiative. This process allows the families to be directly involved with the creation of the plan or if necessary, in a supervisory role.

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Collaborative Practice Team Leader, the primary role of the Collaborative Practice Knowledge Keeper/Facilitator is to provide cultural protocol requirements for Collaborative Practice. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Collaborative Practice Program is a co-operative planning process that is available to families whose children are identified as needing safety and supports. This is an alternative dispute resolution process that can be utilized as an alternative to the court process or in conjunction with the court process with the goal of positive change for the family. These protection concerns are identified in the various structured decision-making tools and assessments used by the social worker. These processes also include family finding discussions to ensure that the children’s immediate and extended families identify alternative family caregivers.
The Collaborative Practice Program is paramount in guiding Restorative Child Welfare Practice and Trauma-informed approaches as outlined in VACFSS policy, “Keeping Our Children Safe”. The Collaborative Practice Program, in keeping with the new Federal Legislation respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families is an inclusive and collaborative process to ensure the principles of the Act. As of Jan 1, 2020, every service provider providing child and family services in relation to Indigenous children must adhere to in decision making principles which includes, best interest of the child, cultural continuity, and substantive equality. The new Act also affirms jurisdiction over child and family services for Indigenous communities and provides a framework for communities to enact laws in relation to child and family services.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Family Preservation and Reunification, the Family Preservation Program Resources Assistant (FPRA) works closely with Family Preservation and Reunification Program staff, across agency programs, with community professionals and the Indigenous community to provide a high level of service to children, youth and families served by VACFSS. JOB SUMMARY:
VACFSS is seeking a permanent full-time Float Administrative Assistant to support our programs including Child Protection, Guardianship, Resources, Family Preservation, and Infrastructure. This position is a permanent full-time position guaranteed 35 hours per week and can be assigned to work at any of our office locations on short assignment (1 to 5 days) or long-term assignments (2 weeks to 3 months) based on operational needs of our Programs. This is a great opportunity to start with our Agency and have exposure to many of our Program areas.
Assignment of work will be done though Human Resources in collaboration with Program Managers. Once assigned, the role will report to the Program’s Office Manager providing a variety of confidential and professional administrative support services for the program, team, and staff. This position will assist by maintaining client files, preparing documentations, correspondence, reports and other information as required utilizing various computer applications; and providing switchboard duties as needed. Some other administrative duties include ordering/requesting applicable forms, booklets, or program supplies, completing large volume mail outs using mail merge and completing computer entry to the client case management system. These functions and all other duties will be performed in a courteous, professional manner and require working collaboratively in a team environment. Successful candidates will be task orientated and willing to demonstrate effective teamwork, initiative, organization, and interpersonal skills. This role is a frontline position where you will be the first contact with our clients, partner agencies/organizations and other professional colleagues.
Please note that the Child Protection Office is relocating from 471 East Broadway, Vancouver BC to 2020 Yukon Street on July 23, 2021. The successful candidate will need to be able to 745 Clark Drive, 3284 East Broadway and 2020 Yukon Street.

Contract length: 15 Full-Day Sessions & 2 Half-Day Orientations/Year-End Wrap Up from end of March to the beginning of November 2023. Plus, an additional 2-hours per month for debriefs between sessions (approximately 142 hours @$23/hour)
The Culturally Relevant Urban Wellness (CRUW) Program was developed in 2011 by a
community partnership interested in promoting the use of green space as a source of wellness and concrete skill development for youth. The program targets Indigenous youth in foster care and other diverse youth from community and is grounded in the Indigenous perspective that we derive wellness and community from relationship and interaction with land and territory. CRUW is based at Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society (VACFSS) and operates in partnership with The Indigenous Research Partnerships and xʷc̓ic̓əsəm Garden, the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at the UBC Farm, and the Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD). CRUW has three distinct programming streams, including: 1) the core UBC Farm program; 2) the Life Skills & Leadership program; and 3) the Youth Mentor Committee.
Together these programs address the core objectives of:
1. Honouring Our Diversity
2. Holistic and Sustainable Urban Wellness
3. Emotional and Cultural Competence
4. Youth Leadership
The UBC Farm CRUW program brings Indigenous youth in the care of VACFSS together with other diverse youth from MCFD to the UBC Farm. Youth participants spend 15 Saturdays working with Indigenous Elders and knowledge keepers, program staff, and other community members engaging in a variety of activities and workshops on both garden and indoor settings. Participants are split into 3 groups of 10 youth, each led and supervised by a Group Leader – who in turn, is supported by a youth worker, a youth mentor and a volunteer. All service contractors are also required to attend a paid staff and volunteer orientation prior to the program.

As a Group Leader, you will bring with you:
• Strong capacities in youth work (both in groups and one-to-one work)
• Strong facilitation abilities
• Direct experience working with Indigenous youth/communities
• Direct experience with leading outdoor and experiential programming
• An undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education, Recreation, Health Science, or related fields; OR a diploma in other social service fields and 3 years of related work experience
• Valid First Aid (or a commitment to obtain prior to start date)
• Valid Criminal Record Check (to be provided by VACFSS)
• Valid, unrestricted class 5 driver’s licence
• Be fully vaccinated (two doses) for COVID-19
