Honouring the Journey of our Youth is a yearly celebratory gathering at the Native Education College. Coordinated by Elder April, Denise, and administrative staff, this gathering welcomes the youths turning 19 this year. In view of family, caregivers, and loved ones who have supported their growth, the youth were blanketed and honoured with cedar headbands and boxes filled with medicine and gifts.
This year, a member of the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) gave a speech emphasizing the importance of feeling pride in their resilience and Indigenous roots. Other members of the Committee participated in the coin-giving ceremony as witnesses. Attendees also enjoyed songs and dances performed by Indigenous performers of various Nations. Led by Denise, these songs centered peace and friendship to celebrate the youths and their journeys
