Youth Advisory Committee: On Truth & Reconciliation and Action

Youth voices

As a collective of passionate Indigenous young leaders, we are dedicated to advocating for Indigenous children, youth, and families through culturally grounded, community-driven approaches. We firmly believe in the strength and resilience of Indigenous youth and wish to highlight the importance of youth-led movements in creating real, lasting change. We remain committed to continuing our work in the spirit of reconciliation and social justice.

Canada still has a long way to go when it comes to truth and reconciliation.

We have heard a lot of truths throughout the years about the effects of colonization and residential schools. We continue to call for action to work towards true reconciliation –  as without action, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation becomes performative. The youth advisory committee is dedicated to continue advocating for change to make the foster care system, and this country, better for all people.

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was formed in 2010, and consists of 12 youth in or from VACFSS care. Read more

VACFSS acknowledges, with deep respect and gratitude, that our work takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking Musqueam Peoples, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ilwətaʔɬ/Sel̓ílwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We recognize the past, present, and future generations of the Coast Salish Peoples who help us steward this land, as well as honour and celebrate this place.
