UBC Farm Program

December 10, 2019

The UBC Farm Program provides youth, ages 12-15, with the opportunity to work together in the Institute for Aboriginal Health’s Teaching and Research Garden and together, with Elders and youth workers, youth engage in curriculum and activities around (1) the history of Vancouver and BC; (2) urban wellness; (3) emotional and cultural competence; and (4) mentorship. There are opportunities to grow fresh foods and make crafts, medicines, and value added products (e.g. jam, smoked salmon) to bring home. At the end of the program they participate in a Rites of Passage Ceremony and earn teachings, gifts, and an honorarium for completion of the program. Youth are welcome and encouraged to participate in the UBC Farm Program for multiple consecutive years.
