Announcement: Leadership Update

News

The Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society (VACFSS) Board of Directors is sharing an important leadership update with community

We are honoured to announce the appointment of Virge Silveira as our next Chief Executive Officer, effective January 26, 2026. Virge has a long‑standing relationship with VACFSS and brings extensive experience in Indigenous child and family services, including senior leadership roles within provincial child welfare. The Board looks forward to the leadership and vision she will bring as the Agency continues its work in partnership with community in service of children and families.

This appointment follows a comprehensive and competitive executive search conducted in partnership with Harbour West Consulting. We are grateful to our partners, supporters, and community for their continued collaboration during this transition.

We also wish to share that Bernadette Spence will be retiring from her role as CEO on January 23, 2026. Following her retirement, Bernadette will continue to support the Agency as Advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors until February 27, 2026. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for her many years of dedicated leadership and her unwavering commitment to the children, youth, and families served by VACFSS. Her contributions have shaped the Agency in profound and enduring ways.

VACFSS acknowledges, with deep respect and gratitude, that our work takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking Musqueam Peoples, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ilwətaʔɬ/Sel̓ílwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We recognize the past, present, and future generations of the Coast Salish Peoples who help us steward this land, as well as honour and celebrate this place.
