Restorative Child Welfare
We support families and caregivers to provide safe care for Indigenous children and youth that promotes and respects their well-being and cultural identity.
Grounded in a restorative child welfare model, we prioritize kin and kith placements to keep children connected to their families, culture and community. Our programs have the child’s best interests at the centre of our work. Our focus and teamwork with other programs have resulted in children remaining at home with their families with the provision of respite services, engaging children in continuing care relationships with their parents and families, and children returning home with an extension of their families to include their foster caregivers.
Inclusive Foster Caregiving
When a child must come into care, we draw on our network of valued foster caregivers and support them to connect the child to their family, culture, and identity.
Inclusive Foster Care is about keeping children safe, connected and loved. Inclusive fostering was identified as a step to begin transforming the foster care system to include the ongoing participation of parents and extended family in caring for their children. The focus is the best interest of the child; the goal is preserving the family ties. It is a partnership where parents and foster caregivers teach and support each other to care for the child.
Join Our Circle of Caring – Become a Foster Caregiver
Have you considered becoming a foster caregiver? We are seeking caregivers from all ethnic backgrounds in the Greater Vancouver area who are willing to share their homes and provide care for Indigenous children.
Foster caregivers are supported to succeed in their role with holistic training, including a caregiver cultural camp, workshops, ceremony and access to online cultural resources.
