The Dorothy Arsenault Foundation

Dorothy Arsenault was a well-known and loved foster parent who cared for foster children for over thirty years.  As a tribute to Dorothy’s career of caring for foster children, her children are establishing a tuition scholarship fund for tutoring, mentoring and encouraging foster children to graduate from high school.  The goal is to assist promising students to pursue their academic passion.

A $100,000 gift, over 10 years ($10,000/year), will fund this program focusing on First Nation’s children in the Vancouver area.

Eligible students may receive funding to be used towards professional tutoring services to aid them in core academic subjects.   There are two funding cycles annually (January – June and July - December).  The maximum amount per student per funding cycle is $5,000.   Depending on their circumstances, students may reapply for further funding.

Who can apply?

You are eligible to apply for funds if you:

  • Are an Aboriginal child or youth aged 11 – 18;
  • Are in foster care;
  • Are a motivated student attending school;
  • Are striving to graduate from grade 12;
  • Need assistance to further develop skills in the    core academic subjects
    • E.g. English, social studies, math or science

How are successful applicants chosen?
